The Home Ministers - Machang, Kelantan

The Home Ministers

A few days before my trip to Machang to watch a Wayang Kulit performance, I was taken to Pasar Siti Khadijah in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, My friendly tour guide from Sumpagita introduce me to this lady who owns a fish stall. At first, I saw nothing extra ordinary. Just a lady selling fish. Then my guide pointed me at her wrist. She has more bling than 5o cent (for those who has been living in Mars, 50 cent is a famous American rapper). Smiling at me, she said all this (the gold) are for ‘hari susah’ (for rainy days). My guide pointed to a man who was sitting on a mat nearby rolling his homemade cigarette. “That’s the hubby..”, he said. According to my guide, in Kelantan, it is the ladies who are the entrepreneurs. They are their families financial controller (I don’t want to use the word ‘breadwinner’, don’t want to upset my brothers). They are simply, Home Ministers. A minister who is elected by the leader (husband), control everything (or seems to) and have the power to throw the leader to the slammer (constraint area). Home Minister.

This photo was taken in Machang. Their husbands and childrens are involved in a local Wayang Kulit troupe.

lovely... minister yang dah bersara, minister yang masih memegang tampuk pemerintahan dan up and coming minister...

Semporna 1 - The Explorer

The Explorer

This photo was taken in Tabuan Island during one of my trips to Semporna, Sabah. Located about 45 minutes by speedboat from Semporna, it fascinated with its’ natural beauty that caught me in awe throughout my visit. The people are mostly fishermen and the children are businessmen. Yes, businessmen, entrepreneurs. Why? How? Well, everytime I want to take a photo of them, they asked for money. No money, no photo. At least they know their worth. So, if you want to visit the islands around here, a kind advise, bring lotsa syillings.

GOAL IV - The Wrath of the Rungus Clan Rumah Panjang Blok A

View all 6 photos...
It was a game of men (tho' few girls played). It was a game of character and endurance (but keke had to go back early, her mom was looking for her). The Rumah Panjang Blok A were tested to the max. It was a close call, but Blok A, with their star player Danny Owen, playing the game of his life (all the 12 years...but he started with main sorok sorok the first 3 years).

Danny Owen looking at his future ahead, "Newcastle or Sabah? Real Madrid?! Adidas or Nike?! Mercedes or BMW?

The Dynamic Flambouyant Rumah Panjang Blok A team, "We'll never walk alone...sebab ada momok"

The Notorious Opposition, the boys (and girls) of Blok B, " kill kill, die die ..... but hujan we have to go back, mak would kill us if we main hujan

keke, showing her excellent sportsman(girl)ship, "i just want world peace but kalau takde ..kitkat would be nice too"

The Coaches, thinking of strategies to win the derby (and also what to cook for dinner)

The Injured Players, "we would give everything for our team,..except for our wau we kinda like them"

Cantik la B&W kat sini, Rungus kat Kudat tu ker, tak penah sampai lagi tapi Tip of Borneo dah sampai... Wed 11-Jul-2007 16:10

Cantik sungguh.... ekspresi muka jelas terpancar pada setiap gambar... persembahan teknik hitam putih juga menguatkan lagi sifat gambar masing-masing....

Stumbled upon your FP via Shaliza's (in case you're wondering where am I came from).

I love those two kids. Their face are so classy, the boys we would've seen in kampungs sorta things.

The black and white work well for me, I think
